La belle Nani nous regarde d’un regard doux et réservé, la main posée pudiquement sur la poitrine. Elle a le physique plantureux d’une femme mure, l’attitude digne d’une matrone de haute extraction. Véronèse est plus connu pour ses portraits de nobles et d’aristocrates. Dans ce rare portrait féminin, il a moins voulu peindre une femme qu’un type, que l’idéal de la mère de famille. La belle Nani apparaît à son avantage, parée de ses plus riches atours, d’une robe de velours bleu roi et d’un manteau léger de gaze. L’on n’a pu identifier exactement cette patricienne, toujours est-il que d’aucuns considèrent qu’il s’agit du plus beau portrait féminin du XVIème siècle vénitien.
