The Parliaments of London series is a group of nineteen paintings by the Impressionist painter Claude Monet between 1900 and 1904. All the paintings are roughly the same size (around 81 cm by 92 cm) and adopt the same point of view. Monet, who had already visited London in 1870-1871, made his first six-week stay in London in September 1899. He stayed at the Savoy Hotel, which offered a spectacular view of the Thames and South London. He returned to the same hotel for two further stays, in February and March 1900 and from January to March 1901. During these stays, he painted Waterloo Bridge in the early morning, at sunrise, and Charing Cross Bridge in the afternoon. It was during his second visit that he is said to have begun painting the Houses of Parliament in London, seen from St Thomas' Hospital in the late afternoon and at sunset. The first paintings in the series were done on the spot, but he continued to work on them until 1904, when he returned to France, mainly from photographs taken on the spot.
