Détail de L'Annonciation

The Annunciation Triptych is an oil-on-panel triptych by the Flemish painter Rogier van der Weyden, dating from around 1434. It originally consisted of three panels: the central panel is now in the Musée du Louvre in Paris and the side panels are in the Galleria Sabauda in Turin, Italy. It is an early work by the Flemish artist, with elements by Robert Campin and Jan van Eyck. The central panel (Louvre) depicts a composition in a domestic interior, with a richly dressed angel surprising the Virgin in the act of reading a book (one of the symbols of the Annunciation in the Holy Scriptures). Van der Weyden paid close attention to technical details, such as the shine of metal objects like the lamp, the pot and the medallion hanging over the bed. The horizon line is high, as in other Flemish paintings of the period.
