Alexandre Cabanel was born on September 28, 1823 in Montpellier. In 1839, he reached Paris and joined François-Edouard Picot. In 1840, he joined the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts de Paris and participated in the Salons three years later. In 1845, winner of the Grand Prix of Rome, he leaves for five years at the Villa Medici. He comes back to live in Paris in 1850. In 1863, Cabanel was elected as member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts de Paris and was appointed head professor of workshops at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris a year later. Over the years he received various awards, such as the Légion d'honneur, for example. Cabanel died on 23 January 1889 in Paris.

<span "'="">Alexandre Cabanel was an academic painter of the 19th century. His famous works are "Naissance de Vénus", "La Glorification de Saint Louis" et "Phèdre".
