Portrait of Doctor Gachet

Lors de son séjour en France, à Auvers-sur-Oise près de Paris, Vincent Van Gogh peint deux versions du portrait du docteur Gachet, ami des nombreuses peintres impressionnistes et collectionneur de toiles. Alors que le peintre est en plein épisode dépressif, son frère Théo lui recommande le docteur Gachet, qui lui offre un soutien moral. En 1990 une des deux toiles est mise aux enchères et vendue à un collectionneur japonais pour 82,5 dollars, lui donnant à l’époque de peinture la plus chère de l’histoire.
