Francisco de Zurbaran was born in 1598 in Fuente de Cantos, Spain. At the age of fourteen, he began an apprenticeship in a painter's studio in Seville. From the early 1620s onwards, he began to gain notoriety and received commissions from local churches. The rest of his career was marked by contracts with various religious communities, including the community of friars preachers of the Dominican Order in Seville. He even obtained the title of "Painter to the King" in the middle of his career. Francisco de Zurbaran died in 1664 in Madrid.

Francisco de Zurbaran was a Spanish painter in the Baroque style of the 17th century. His famous works are "Adoration des bergers", "Agnus Dei" and "Saint Casilda".

Francisco de Zurbaran was particularly linked to Jusepe de Ribera, Bartolome Esteban Murillo and Diego Velasquez.
