Wheatfield with Crows

Wheat Field with Crows is an oil painting produced by the painter Vincent van Gogh in July 1890. Critics and art historians generally see this painting as a representation of Van Gogh's preoccupied state of mind, with a dark, threatening sky, the indecision of three paths going in different directions and the black crows, signs of foreboding or even death. Van Gogh committed suicide a few days after painting this picture. It is generally believed that this was Van Gogh's last work before his death, and some have even claimed that he shot himself in the head while painting it [ref. needed]. Indeed, this is how it is presented in the film The Passionate Life of Vincent van Gogh. However, there is no evidence to support this idea, especially as some specialists attribute seven other paintings done by Van Gogh after this one, and it was not in the head that the painter shot himself but in the chest (to aim at the heart) or abdomen.
