Breton Peasants

Paysannes bretonnes is a painting produced by Paul Gauguin in 1894. This oil on canvas depicts two Breton peasant women in discussion. It is in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris. The painting was done between two stays in Tahiti. Paul Gauguin returned to the rural subjects that had inspired him before his departure for Oceania, through his work with the painting colony at Pont-Aven. But his Polynesian experience is still evident in the way he paints [...]
