Vintage photographs: 50s to 70s
Vintage photography from the 50s, 60s and 70s was the basis of pictorial art and the forerunner of contemporary photography, which from the 1980s onwards would dramatically transform the ways in which such basic categories as the family photo, documentary photography and photojournalism were presented. Vintage photography from the 50s to the 70s gave way to glamorous and festive shots, through the disinhibition of gender, women and society in general. The hippy, free-spirited era of this period brought a revival to the photographic landscape, showcasing worldliness, including Hollywood portraits, while affirming the grandeur and decadence of these symbolic years. Avant-garde artists began to use photography as a material in the same way as painting or drawing, and photography became increasingly reproducible.
