Girl in Red

Nature is a sculpture by Alfons Mucha created between 1899 and 1900. There are currently seven known examples, although there could be as many as ten. One of them is on display at the Fin de siècle museum in Brussels, Belgium. Two are in Germany, in the Ferdinand Wolfang Ness collection at the Wiesbaden museum and at the Badisches Landesmuseum. A fourth is in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. The fifth is in the Alphonse Mucha Museum in Sakai, Japan. Each piece is made of bronze, with a different patina and material for the ornaments. It stands on a round marble base 116 cm high and 24 cm in diameter. The copy in the Wiesbaden Museum is made of silver bronze for the torso and face, and gilded bronze for the hair and ornaments. The young woman wears creoles and the egg is made of lapis lazuli. The copy in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a bust in silvered bronze with gilded hair, and its egg in red porphyry [...]
