Grey Circle
Black Grid (in German: Schwarzer Raster) is an oil painting on canvas created by the Russian artist Vassili Kandinsky in 1922.
Painted at the height of his creativity, this painting reflects his theory of the emotions conveyed by lines, shapes and colours. Red gives the impression of the beat of a drum, while green expresses the beat of a quiet violin. The vertical lines of the frame are cold, while the horizontal lines are warm, strong and thick. This work presents contrasts such as the maturity of the straight lines with the youth of the angular lines.
