Le Tour du Japon au Théâtre Robert-Houdin
The Sun Tower (????, Taiy? no t??) is a building created by Japanese artist Tar? Okamoto. It is known as the symbol of the 1970 World Expo. It is located in the Exposition Memorial Park in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, Japan. The tower features three faces on its front and back. The government of Osaka Prefecture is seeking to have the tower included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
The tower was originally built for the 1970 World Expo and was inserted into the central building ??? (Big Roof), designed by Japanese architect Kenz? Tange. The tip of the tower protruded from the ceiling of the Great Roof. Science fiction writer Saky? Komatsu saw it and associated it with a sexual act described in the novel The Season of the Sun, where a character passed his penis through the wall of a sliding paper door. The tower's creator, Taro Okamoto, heard of this comparison and named the tower the Tower of the Sun.
The tower was open to the public and visitors could go inside during the exhibition, but it was closed after the event. Inside is a huge work of art called the Tree of Life. The Great Roof structure that surrounded the tower was removed in 1979, leaving the tower exposed to the elements. The tower gradually deteriorated. It was decided to preserve it and repair work began in November 1994 and was completed in March 1995.
