Les dindons
The Turkeys is a painting by Claude Monet, painted in 1877. It is now in the Musée d'Orsay.
The painting was part of a group of Monet's paintings done in 1877 during his stay in Montgeron at the home of Ernest Hoschédé. However, Hoschédé went bankrupt and had to sell the paintings the following year.
It was also during this stay that Monet met his second wife Alice. They married on 16 July 1892, after the deaths of Ernest and Camille Doncieux, Monet's first wife.
The painting is taken from the lower grounds of Château de Rottembourg, owned by Ernest Hoschédé. We can see the park's vast lawn, animated by a few turkeys, one of which has its neck cut off by the framing.
