Les Toits rouges (Red Roofs, Village Corner, Winter Effect, full museum title) is one of the best-known paintings by the French Impressionist painter Camille Pissarro. It is painted in oil on canvas and measures 53 × 64 cm. It was painted in 1877. It was in the Musée du Jeu de Paume and is currently in the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
The Red Roofs (A Village in Winter) is a landscape painting. It focuses on the red roofs of a village in winter, near Pontoise. Above, we can see a hill and, at the very top, a fringe of blue sky. In the foreground are fruit trees.
The work was produced at a time in his career when Pissarro was looking for a diaphanous atmosphere. We can also see the influence of Paul Cézanne in the construction of the landscape. It is an example of Pissarro's favourite motifs: rural, simple and natural.
The colours clash with a certain violence, especially the complementary ones.
