Tête de femme presque de profil
The Head of a Young Woman is a drawing made around 1490 using silverpoint on paper by Leonardo da Vinci and kept in the Graphic Arts Department of the Louvre Museum in Paris.
The Tête de jeune femme (Head of a Young Woman) is based on a sheet of paper measuring 17.9 × 16.8 cm. It is done in silverpoint on paper prepared in pale blue, with white highlights. The back of the sheet features an identical mirror image, probably produced by transparency.
It shows a bust of a young woman. Her shoulders and face are turned to the left of the frame, which is tilted downwards at a three-quarter angle.
There is also a black stone sketch of a nude male bust in the lower left-hand corner. It is not in the master's hand, as it shows the characteristics of a right-handed person.
Produced between 1483 and 1485, the drawing is considered to be a preparatory study for the head of the Virgin Mary in the painting of the Madonna Litta, produced around the same period by Giovanni Antonio Boltraffio or Marco d'Oggiono and kept in the Hermitage Museum in Saint [...]
