The dream

Le Rêve met en, scène une amie de Rousseau, une polonaise du nom de Yadwiga, allongée telle une Vénus, nue sur un canapé entouré d’une épaisse jungle. Ce tableau fut le dernier que le Douanier Rousseau présenta au Salon des indépendants en 1910. On y retrouve le paradis rêvé que l’artiste a si souvent peint, associé à une femme, qui fut un de ses grands amours, malheureusement non réciproque. Au fond de la scène, un musicien et sa flûte surgissent de l’ombre, transportant la jeune femme dans les bras de Morphée grâce à la musique.
