The Tempest
The Tempest (Italian: La Tempesta) is a painting by Giorgione dated between 1506 and 1508.
It is said to be the first landscape painting.
The work is kept at the Gallerie dell'Accademia in Venice, Italy.
The work was first mentioned in 1530 by Marcantonio Michiel, who spoke of "a small landscape on canvas with the storm, the gypsy woman and the soldier, by the hand of Zorzi de Castelfranco, in the house of Gabriele Vendramin, who was probably not the original commissioner.

He advised his heirs not to scatter his collection.
There is no doubt about the attribution, and it has been dated to between 1500 and 1510, the year of the artist's death. Peter Humfrey puts the date at around 1505-1506, which narrows down Jaynie Anderson's more open proposal, which places the painting in the painter's early years, before 1507.
Since the 19th century, the work has been the subject of numerous readings, and the various interpretations are still under discussion among art critics.
