Claude Debussy (1862-1918) was a French composeur born in Saint Germain en Laye in 1862. He studied music, with particular interest in the piano, at the Conservatoire in Paris and proved his immense talent from a young age. In 1884 he won the Prix de Rome which took him to Italy for two years where he met Giuseppe Verdi and Franz List. Debussy is considered the father of musical Impressionism in France, working within the French musical avant-garde and leaving a great mark on the history of music with his original and liberating œuvre.
