Bataille d'Austerlitz, 2 décembre 1805

The Battle of Austerlitz, 2 December 1805 is a painting by François Gérard, painted in 1810. It is one of the works in the Battle Gallery at the Château de Versailles in France. The Battle of Austerlitz is an oil on canvas, 5.03 m high and 9.58 m long. It depicts a scene from the Battle of Austerlitz in 1805. The work is located in the Gallery of Battles in the Château de Versailles. As the paintings in the gallery are arranged in chronological order, it is placed between those depicting the Battle of Hohenlinden (1800) and the Battle of Jena (1806). François Gérard painted the canvas in 1810. It was shown for the first time at the Salon of 1810; In 1833, King Louis-Philippe, who had been in power for 3 years, decided to convert the Château de Versailles into a French historical museum. The Galerie des Batailles was inaugurated in 1837, with 33 monumental canvases depicting military episodes from French history. Gérard's painting is on display here.
