La Rue Montorgueil à Paris fête du 30 juin 1878
Rue Montorgueil was painted by the Impressionist painter Claude Monet on 30 June 1878, to mark the bank holidays for "peace and work" and the closing of the Paris Universal Exhibition, in a symbolic gesture promoted by the French republican state to rebuild after the humiliation of defeat at the hands of Prussia in 1870. The vivid colours and profusion of French flags strongly convey the festive atmosphere of the day.

He had returned to the capital for the birth of his son Michel, and was concerned about the state of his son's mother Camille's health. The painting shows the painter's attraction to flags fluttering in the wind.
