Zoological Garden I

"Dynamic Suprematism No. 57" is a 1916 Suprematist painting by Kazimir Malevich. "Dynamic Suprematism No. 57" was painted by Kazimir Malevich in 1916. The painting was purchased from Malevich by the Museum of Pictorial Culture and passed on to the Tretyakov Gallery in 1929 or 1930, after the museum was dissolved. For several decades, Malevich's painting, due to the ban on the Russian avant-garde in the USSR, was rarely exhibited until the early 1930s in the Tretyakov Gallery's temporary indoor exhibitions and was kept in the museum's storerooms. Malevich's painting was donated to the Tretyakov Gallery under Order No. 5 of the USSR Ministry of Culture dated 16 December 1975, signed by Deputy Minister Vladimir Popov, who held the post from 1966 to 1979. There is a version that the painting was exchanged for letters from Vladimir Lenin, but this has not been documented. It remains unclear to whom and in exchange for what Malevich gave his work.
