La cavalerie rouge

The Charge of the Red Cavalry is a painting by Kazimir Malevich, executed between 1928 and 1932, which is kept in the Russian State Museum in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The painting by the founder of Suprematism was for a long time the only abstract work by the painter recognised by official Soviet art history as contributing to the image of the October Revolution. The image is divided into three parts: the sky, the earth and the people (the cavalry in red). The ratio between the width of the heavens and the earth is 0.618 (the golden ratio). The cavalry is made up of three groups of four riders. The earth is divided into 12 colours. In the painter's signature, the work is dated "year 18", perhaps with propagandist intent, although other opinions allude to the ephemeral nature of the utopian Russian [...]
