Nature morte au pot de Gingembre II

Still Life with Ginger Vase II (in Dutch: Stilleven met gemberpot II) is an oil painting on canvas by the Dutch artist Piet Mondrian, painted in 1912. After moving to Paris, Mondrian explored the new ideas of Cubism and was admitted to the Cubist salon at the XXVIIIth Salon des Indépendants. During his Cubist period, which lasted until around 1913, Mondrian painted several pictures, including Still Life with Ginger Vase I and Still Life with Ginger Vase II. By comparing the two, which were done a few months apart, we can see the strong Cubist influence in the latter: while the former has the influence of Cézanne, in the latter we can see traces of Picasso and Braque: the ochre colours of part of the composition, and the partial disappearance (only the vase can be distinguished) of the figurative elements [...]
