Perugino was born around 1448 near Perugia, in the Papal States (now Italy). At the age of nine, his family apprenticed him to a painter in Perugia. He then trained in Florence with Andrea del Verrochio, where he met his fellow student Leonardo da Vinci. He then painted numerous religious pictures and Virgins. In 1478, Perugino left for Rome where he took part in the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel. On his return to Florence, he opened two workshops (one in Florence and the other in Perugia) and had Raphael as one of his pupils. He died in 1523 in Fontignano, a town in Perugia.
Perugino was a painter of the Italian Renaissance. His famous works are "Apollo and Marsyas", "La Vierge et l'enfant" and "The Fight of Love and Chastity".
Perugino was particularly connected with Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci and Andrea del Verrochio.
