Constructivism fine art prints and canvas prints

Constructivism emerged in Russia in the years 1910-1920, driven by a group of artists and designers who sought to break with the artistic traditions of the past. They believed that art should be a means of social and political engagement, and that it should be integrated into people's everyday lives. Inspired by the Russian Revolution and the ideas of socialism, Constructivist artists sought to create functional and utilitarian works of art, combining art and technology to serve the needs of society.

Constructivist paintings are characterised by their geometric abstraction and bold use of form and colour. The artists avoided figurative representations and favoured pure compositions, using geometric shapes such as circles, squares and lines. They also exploited the optical effects of shapes and colours to create dynamic visual illusions. Constructivist works were often devoid of sentimentality or individual expression, reflecting instead the collective, progressive spirit of the time.

famous Constructivism painting artworks

The major Constructivist paintings are marked by a bold, geometric aesthetic. These include Kazimir Malevich's "Suprematist Composition: White on White" (1918), a painting emblematic of the movement, in which a white square appears to float on a white background, symbolising abstraction and purity of form. Counter Relief" (1915) by Vladimir Tatlin is a painting that explores shapes and colours, expressing the dynamism of modern technology. "Vertical Composition" (1918) by Alexander Rodchenko features vertical lines and geometric forms, reflecting the search for harmony and balance in Constructivist art. These paintings testify to the Constructivist painters' commitment to geometric abstraction and their desire to explore new forms of artistic expression in the service of a revolutionary and innovative vision.
