Dynamic Suprematism
The theme of the painting is a walk in the park. Macquet developed this favourite motif from the start of his career, and in his later works it acquires a degree of the highest perfection. The artist creates a wonderful, unreal world around his figures, who are themselves in keeping with this fairy-tale atmosphere: ladies in elegant gowns and fashionable hats, and men in dark suits and bowler hats. Macke himself described the figures in his paintings as walking in the lap of nature: ""The common attribute of men is bowler hats, and I put bowler hats on them. The women, with their slender necks and hips, hold umbrellas to protect themselves from the light"".
