Self-portrait
Collection du Dr Gachet Given the short period of creation of Van Gogh (1880-1890), there are many self-portraits of Van Gogh. This is yet one of the most famous and certainly one of the most interesting, because of its composition. Indeed, painted with vigor, in this painting, Van Gogh expresses and brings out his dark side, tormented, despite clear and bright colours. The strokes of paint, put in commas, to give an undulating motion portrait, expressing chronic migraines and the constant torment that experienced this artistic genius .
This artwork is a painting from the modern period. It belongs to the post-impressionism style.
« Self-portrait » is kept at Musée d'Orsay, Paris, France.
This Artwork is sold in open-edition.
