The Portrait of Isabel de Requesens, Viceroy of Naples, also known as the Portrait of Joan of Aragon, is an oil-on-wood painting transferred to canvas (120 × 95 cm), dating from around 1518, by the painter Raphael, now in the Musée du Louvre. The figure depicted is Dona Isabel de Requesens, wife of Don Ramon Folc de Cardona i de Requesens, Duke of Somma and Viceroy of Naples from 1509 to 1522. The work was probably commissioned in 1518 by Leo X, to be presented as a diplomatic gift to Francis I by Cardinal Bernardo Dovizi da Bibbiena, the Pope's legate in France. This work is typical of Raphael's last years, during which the extent to which the artist participated in the execution of his works is highly controversial. In fact, during this period, the artist, overloaded with commissions, confined himself to making preparatory drawings and left the execution of a large number of works, in whole or in part, to his studio assistants, in particular Giovan Francesco Penni and Giulio Romano. Giorgio Vasari reports that "Raphael painted the face of the vice-regal queen after going to Naples to fix the features of the model in a preparatory drawing, while he entrusted the rest to Giulio Romano". In this case, the preparatory drawing has been lost. In 1540, the painting was restored by Le Primaticcio in Fontainebleau and transferred to canvas from its original wooden support.
